Southend Pier & Railway’s long-serving resident office cat and Chief Mouser Charlie (aka Timmy) has recently retired in March 2023 after an impressive 16 years of service.
The handsome Charlie’s past duties have involved pest control, being a top stress reliever, and number one treat supervisor! He now loves to find a hiding place to snuggle up and sleep most of the day away and is embracing the relaxed home life. Having Charlie with the team for 16 years has been a pure joy, and he will be missed.
Charlie has now relocated to his new home with a long-time colleague who has always had a soft spot and warm lap for him, so we know he’ll be content in his new residence. Charlie’s meow-velous new family will send us regular updates, so watch this space for news of his settling-in period.

We are delighted to report an update on Charlie!
In the last few months, Charlie has settled beautifully into his new home and is enjoying retirement with lots of snuggles, play and love. He is undoubtedly enjoying his food, comfy surroundings and garden to roam, complete with a favourite spot to relax under the rosebush.
It’s fantastic to share Charlie is having a purr-fect retirement; so fur, so good!
