Velvet Swimming Crab

Velvet Swimming Crab

Velvet swimming crabs are striking crustaceans known for their vivid red eyes and velvety shell texture. They are highly active and aggressive, using their strong claws to defend themselves. These crabs are excellent swimmers, thanks to flattened back legs that act like paddles. Found in rocky or sandy areas near Southend Pier, velvet swimming crabs are more likely to be spotted by those exploring the intertidal zones at low tide.
