Smooth-Hound Shark
Smooth-hound sharks are small, bottom-dwelling sharks often found in estuaries like the Thames. They feed on crustaceans and mollusks, using their flattened teeth to crush shells. These sharks are harmless to humans and are occasionally caught by anglers fishing from Southend Pier. Their streamlined shape and gentle behavior make them a fascinating species to encounter.
