Flounder
Flounder are flatfish that thrive in the brackish waters of the Thames Estuary. Their flattened bodies and camouflaged coloration allow them to blend into sandy or muddy seabeds. They feed on small invertebrates like worms and crustaceans. Anglers often catch them from Southend Pier during low tide. Flounder tolerate a mix of saltwater and freshwater, making them a common species in estuarine environments.
