Edible/Brown Crab

Edible/Brown Crab

The edible crab, also known as the brown crab, is a large, commercially valuable species. It has a distinctive reddish-brown shell with a scalloped edge and black-tipped claws. These crabs live on rocky or muddy seabeds and feed on shellfish and detritus. While more common in deeper waters, they can occasionally be found near Southend Pier, particularly in quieter areas with suitable habitat. Their robust build and slow movements make them a fascinating find for visitors.
