Bass
Bass are sleek, silvery fish prized by anglers for their fighting spirit and tasty, firm flesh. Found in estuarine and coastal waters, bass feed on small fish, crabs, and squid.
Around Southend Pier, they are most commonly caught in summer, though they are present year-round. Juvenile bass often swim in schools, while larger adults are solitary hunters. Strict fishing regulations, including size limits and seasonal bans, help conserve this popular species.
