About the Event

In celebration of Southend Pier winning Pier of the Year 2023, step aboard Paddle Steamer Waverley for a special celebration cruise in association with Southend Pier on Friday 22 September. Locals and visitors are invited to join this unforgettable sailing celebrating this remarkable achievement – with the opportunity to view this cherished pier from a unique perspective alongside the breath-taking sights of the historical Thames Forts.

Take the train (or walk) down the longest pleasure pier in the World to join the World’s last seagoing paddle steamer – departing from Southend Pier at 11:30am. The cruise promises an up-close encounter with the historical Thames Forts that guarded the coastline during WW2.

Passengers will be treated to an awe-inspiring cruise of the Shivering Sands and Red Sands forts, immersing themselves in the rich history that surround these iconic structures. As the day continues, passengers will be treated to an exclusive opportunity to view the magnificent Knock John Fort, a true testament to the nation’s maritime heritage.

This cruise offers an opportunity for the Southend community to bask in the glory of their award-winning pier. Tickets for the Pier of the Year Celebration Cruise are now available. Book online at waverleyexcursions.co.uk/book or call 0141 243 2224.
