Maunsell Forts Tour

Take a cruise from Southend Pier to the Eerie World War 2 Maunsell forts, called the Red sand Towers. These Historic monuments stand in the estuary some 9 miles from Southend and 5 Miles from Whitstable. It will take approximately an hour to reach the Towers and will pass by the Mulbury Harbour (Pheonix unit) and Shoebury boom before crossing the Shipping channel towards the Isle of Sheppey. You will get chance to take plenty of photos in and around the towers as our vessel is small enough to pass between and under the structures. (We do not allow anyone to board the structures)If you’re an avid photographer, grab your long lenses to see if you can snap photos of the Pregrine Falcons. Upon our return we will pass via the SS. Richard Montgomery before crossing back towards Southend Pier.

Please note that up from June the SS. Richard Montgomery will be having work carried out to remove her masts. Following commencement of the work we may be required to deviate away from the wreck site and following completion of the work we cannot guarantee that anything other than the Exclusion zone will be visible on the surface at any state of tide. Onboard facilities include a Bar, selling Alcoholic and soft drinks and light snacks. A small Toilet is also available onboard. This cruise last for 3 Hours.

Around the Montgomery Cruise

Explore history and take in sights in comfort! In August 1944, a US liberty ship arrived in the Thames Estuary. a vessel that would plague Sheerness for the next 76 years. After having dropped its anchor in the Nore anchorage, she tried to ride out a Northerly gale, but dragged and grounded on the Sheerness Middle Sand. Will you be one of the last to see her up close and still breaking the surface? This 60 minute cruise from Southend Pier towards the entrance of the River Medway will also take in sights of the Shoebury Pheonix unit (Mulbury Harbour), Garrison Fort at Sheerness and the Isle of Grain Tower. Onboard facilities include a Bar, selling alcoholic and soft drinks and light snacks. A small Toilet is also available onboard. Commentary available throughout. The trip duration is 1 hour.
